Eni, the Italian multinational energy company, has recently launched a Centre for Renewable Efficiency in the Republic of Congo. The centre, which is located in Brazzaville, will focus on developing innovative energy solutions to promote sustainability and reduce carbon emissions in the region. The centre features six laboratories, a conference hall, meeting rooms, and an open-air laboratory, equipped with next-generation renewables and energy efficiency technologies. The facilities will support Congolese and African research programs on renewables, biomass, and clean cooking. The centre’s objective is to enhance the development of sustainable energy solutions in the region through research and collaboration with local and African institutions.
Eni and the Congolese government signed an agreement in 2016 to establish the Oyo Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. The centre will facilitate the integration of energy, water, and food production industries to promote the achievement of energy security, economic and social development, and environmental sustainability in the Republic of Congo. The Congolese government will manage the facility through the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technological Innovation, with Eni, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs providing financial and technical support under a five-year strategic plan.
The centre, equipped with next-generation renewables and energy efficiency technologies, comprises six laboratories, a conference hall, meeting rooms, and an open-air laboratory. The inauguration ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including the President of the Republic of Congo, the Prime Minister, and the CEO of Eni.
